Can Schools Enable Parents to Prevent Summer Learning Loss? A Text-Messaging Field Experiment to Promote Literacy Skills

Equal opportunity in education is being hindered by large discrepancies in summer learning. A randomized field trial was conducted testing several messages promoting literacy development practices. Significant increases are found for parent-teacher conference attendance and reading comprehension ability for third and fourth graders. Surveys evidence suggestions for future interventions.
